tate britain's green tree

Make Your Own Xmas source and more info HERE
"...This year's creation by Bob & Roberta Smith has an ecological and recycling theme. Called "Make Your Own Xmas", it's big, ramshackle wooden structure made of recycled materials, including sandwich boards, tape, signs and an oil drum. Eight bicycles of various sizes have been fixed to stands around the "trunk" (bottom), each holding a generator that is connected to a set of light bulbs that decorate the tree. When happy children and chuckling adults hop on the bikes and pedal hard, the lights go on..."

artful cheer

What to get that arty friend - nothing says xmas like towels, I say. The collector will keep it in the bag untouched conserving value, the basic-level artful person will use it at the beach to impress his/her less than artistic-understanding-beer-chugging friends and the artist will either hang it on the wall or use to mop up spilled paints. Either way, you look good and they are happy for not getting a fruitcake. Oh, and while you're at it buy yourself the Minter tree, nothing says conceptual xmas like a wall decal - I advise scotch taping tinsel on the wall and hanging one strand of lights off to the side coming from the ceiling - voilĂ , tryharder just made you a Stockholder :)

MARILYN MINTER: full tree kit - $100
Elizabeth Peyton Towel - $50
Jeff Koons Towel - $50

tis the season? /// Jo Broughton

'Christmas Set'
C-print

Jo Broughton
Jo started making these images in 2001, whilst at the Royal College of Art, funding the work and her education by employment as a cleaner at the porn studio. When all was quiet and the bodies had gone home she would photograph the aftermath of the day’s shoots. The resulting works have a stillness to them in complete contrast to the frenetic industry of which they are the traces.
